Amazing Sculptural Spiral Staircase

1

Located within the Atrium office tower in Tel Aviv, Israel, is this amazing sculptural staircase made from Poplar wood. Created by Tomer Gelfand, the staircase is composed of two sculptural elements, the spiraling stairs and the tornado, which acts as a viewing balcony to the hall below.

At the bottom of the stairs, the reception desk was conceived as the starting point for the spiraling wooden sculpture, and is made from the same Poplar wood as the stair railings.

The railings are constructed of 9,000 meters (29,527 feet) of raw Poplar wood, that was cut using a CNC machine to form a series of arches that were then assembled on site.

  1. It always amazes me what the mind, heart and soul can come up with. It is beautiful in a scary sort of way, what I would like to know is; how and why. Was it fear, or the love of nature. :o)
