Beijing and Vienna based creative collective Penda designed the San Shan Bridge as part of the infrastructure program for the Olympic Winter Games 2022.
The english translation of “San Shan (三山)” is 3 mountains and describes the form of the bridge with its 3 arches connecting to its hilly backdrop. The bridge will connect the city centre with Zhangjiakou, a city about 100 kilometres north west of Beijing. It will be a gateway between the density of the city and the undulating river valleys in the North of Beijing.
