A Spa in The High Desert of Utah

Located in the Canyon Point Campground in the south of Utah, the Amangiri Resort and Spa was designed by the three well-established architects Marwan Al-Sayed, Wendell Burnette and Rick Joy. Opend in 2009, the 34 room luxury hotel is tucked into a protected valley with sweeping views over colourful rock towards the Grand Staircase.

Amagiri, which means “peaceful mountain”, incorporates the surrounding landscape into its design. The hotel adopts the surrounded desert in its interior. It consists of concrete geometric planes that stand out against the swerving shoulders of the rock.

The architects used the geometry and slanting walls toward each other to provide spectacular Canyon views across the desert. The central area of the resort offers a great room that serves a reception, a dining room, and a living room. It has four fire-place niches furnished with comfortable couches and arm chairs.

On the opposite side, the resort has a restaurant and a curved pool that wraps around a sandstone butte. The architects have created a place that both honors and celebrates the magic and mystery of southern Utah’s majestic cliffs.
