Tea House

The site is located at the lowland downstream the dam with a broad river view in front of it. The elevated tea house allows visitors to have a good view and slight wind – both are essential elements of tea drinking session. The building is distributed into small volumes in order to contrast the massive river dam.

The project is a collection of similar units yet with a emphasis on independent user experience. It uses the materials of infrastructure construction – utility poles as columns, channel steel as downspouts, feed pipes as handrails. The doors can be shut down automatically with gravity; and toilets are hidden behind the sliding doors – movement and suddenness create playful experiences. Such small structures can be generalized into any places with utility poles.
