Influenced by the downfall of the GDR-regime, photographer Christian Richter who grew up in East Germany, is still fascinated by buildings that have fallen into oblivion.
He’s interested in the history of those locations and the secrets that are hidden inside the walls. In particular Richter wants to capture the charm of irreversibly destroyed locations. The photographer specialized on architectural photography and in the last couple of years he has visited more than 1000 ruined constructions, spread all over Europe. The range of facilities he depicted is also huge: Among others Richter took pictures of private houses, cinema auditoriums and concert halls.
Staircases and large halls are especially alluring to him. Through his photographic lens, Richter wants to reveal the spirit that lies in each of the buildings which were simply left to rot and decay. Something that was meticulously constructed a while ago shows now its inescapable transience. When taking a closer look, you discover nature that triumphs over human interventions: mold, brass and lichen assume control.
If only these walls could talk… Ah, but they do whisper and fortunately a few such as Christian Richter not only listen but help to divulge some of their secrets and kindly share them.
In some places, it looks like it may have been precipitous to go so far for the picture, but isn’t architecture fascinating? Just think, this was done hundreds of years ago when they didn’t have the equipment they do today to erect such magnificent buildings.

There is an eerie, quiet beauty amongst the grim desolation of abandoned spaces. It is beautifully captured, here.
Once again you have found scenes of astonishing beauty. We have a guy up here called “Nailhead” who travels and photographs the ruins of Michigan, and both you and Mr. Richter will want to check his website, though there is of course not as much quite so beautiful.
I love these! As usual, your posts are amazing. I also wanted to let you know that I nominated you for the Mystery Blogger Award.
