There are certain natural occurrences in the world that leave us all scratching our heads. One such natural wonder is Kummakivi, a geological formation found in the dense forests of Finland.

Temppeliaukio Church, Helsinki, Finland

In the Töölö neighborhood of Helsinki, Finland, in the middle of an ordinary residential square, a scene from the Steven Spielberg’s movie War of the Worlds appears to be unfolding. A giant alien machine has just woken up from deep slumber and is pushing its way out of the ground, where it had been lying dormant for millenniums.

Paternoster: This Elevator Never Stops

The paternoster is kind of elevator that consist of a chain of open compartments that move up and down continuously through the vertical shaft of a building in a loop and without stopping. Passengers step into the moving compartments in the direction they wish to go and then hop off when the elevator reaches the desired floor.

Poland-based artist, Tytus Brzozowski, is behind this collection of paintings. After graduating from the Faculty of Architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology, he went on to work in Finland, where he searched high and low for Nordic art and design.

Fort Alexander, Saint Petersburg

The city of Saint Petersburg at the head of the Gulf of Finland on the Baltic Sea, was once protected by a string of forts across the gulf. Most of these forts were constructed in and around the island of Kotlin
