Fitness Boat Powered by Human Energy in Seine River, Paris

A group of designers have proposed the Paris Navigating Gym - a fitness center on a boat that uses human energy to propel the boat down the Seine River.

Carlo Ratti Associati has worked together with fitness equipment manufacturer Technogym, the nonprofit architecture group TerreformONE, and the urban regeneration institute URBEM, to create plans for the Paris Navigating Gym, a fitness centre on a boat that uses human energy to propel the boat down the Seine River in Paris. Exbury Egg

Artist, Stephen Turner, who specialises in long term artistic explorations of environmental settings, has worked with the designers to create the Egg which he will now use as a ‘residency’, floating in the Beaulieu Estuary for a year, to examine the changing patterns of its marine ecology. He will produce artworks inspired by his surroundings to raise awareness of the importance of protecting the places like the Estuary. Continue reading

Clingstone: The House on The Rock

clingstone-house-6Perched on top of a small, rocky island in Narragansett Bay, near Jamestown, Rhode Island, the United States, is a three-story, cedar shingle mansion built by Philadelphia socialite Joseph Lovering Wharton in 1905. Wharton had built the house as an act of defiance after the government seized his land and summer home that he had in the Fort Wetherill area in south Jamestown, to enlarge the fort at the end of the 1800s.
